
Sanju Sahai, also known as Vishnu, is currently one
of the finest and most sought after Tabla players of
his generation. He belongs to the Benares Gharana
being the 6th generation of Tabla players in the
family. He began playing Tabla at the age of 4 and
gave his first major performance at the age of 9. He
has accompanied many of India’s legendary musicians
such as Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Pandit Shiv
Kumar Sharma, Ustaad Shahid Parvez, Pandit Birju
Maharaj (Kathak), Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan (sarod),
Pandits Rajan and Sajan Mishra (khayaal), Ustaad
Sultan Khan (sarangi), Umyalpuram Shivraman (mridangam)
and Ustaad Aashish Khan (sarod) to name but a few.
Sanju has collaborated with various international
artists from around the globe such as Manuela
Carrasco (flamenco dance), Michael Nyman (British
composer), Patricia Rozario (opera), BBC
Philharmonic, Naresh Sohal (composer), Pete Lockett
(multi percussionist), Yair Dalal (oud), Jason
Carter (guitarist) and Matthew Barley (cellist), Don
Li (clarinet) to name but a few
Sanju is also known as a soloist; however, he is not
merely a percussionist but an imaginative and
sensitive musician.
